Search results are regional and personalised. The ranking you see is almost certainly not the ranking your target market sees.
Rankings carry three biases
For one keyword, three factors move the result: exit region, search history and device. Control all three to get a clean ranking.
- Region: the exit IP sets the default locale, and city differences are largest for local-service terms
- History: sessions with cookies get personalised, so every query needs a clean session
- Device: mobile and desktop result sets often differ and must be collected separately
Do not look like abuse
Search engines are sensitive to query bursts. Lowering per-IP frequency, spreading queries across more exits and randomising intervals helps more than buying pricier IPs.
